Das schönste Fenster der Welt

The informational film commissioned by the AEG-Telefunken company entitled Das schönste Fenster der Welt [The Most Beautiful Window in the World] explains how colour televisions sets are best operated. Though introduced much earlier in the U.S., colour television didn’t reach the West German market until 1967. The “magic tube” turns viewers into citizens of the world, the film claims, bringing all the colours of the world into your home. To do this the device must be properly positioned and the focus, contrast, brightness and colour saturation must be precisely configured. The film combines technical details of the PAL system with a bizarre fictional scenario that was filmed in the studio. “When two lovers turn off the light, they probably want to ... watch colour TV.”
