Soundtrack

Using sound footage from Steven Spielberg’s major motion picture War of the Worlds (2005), Guy Ben-Ner re-enacts the story of an earthly invasion by evil extraterrestrials together with his children and friends. In 1938 Orson Welles adapted the same literary source material – the science fiction novel The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells – for a radio play that according to legend triggered mass panic among listeners. Ben-Ner transposes the hysterical dialogues and sounds into the context of a regular day in the life of a family in Tel Aviv. Soundtrack reflects, on the one hand, the social structure of a domestic microcosm and on the other the power of mass media, which all too often foment irrational fears and bolster political propaganda.
