Transmission from the Liberated Zones

During the war of independence against the colonial rule of Portugal in Guinea, the guerrilla soldiers of the PAIGC (Partido Africano da Independência da Guiné e Cabo Verde) managed to capture large sections of the country. Of all western countries, PAIGC received the most non-military support from Sweden. Filipa César interviewed UN diplomat Folke Löfgren, filmmaker Lennart Malmer, filmmaker and psychologist Ingela Romare and the politician Birgitta Dahl, who all visited the so-called liberated zones in the early 1970s. In Transmission from the Liberated Zones these individuals’ memories are seized by a young man and juxtaposed with his own experiences as a migrant and other struggles for freedom going on right now.
